About Us
Gulley HallThe mission of the Department of Plant Science is to provide service to the citizens of the state of Connecticut in the disciplines of Turfgrass and Soil Science, Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, to train the next generation of plant and soil scientists, and to generate new fundamental information in these scientific disciplines through basic research programs in areas related to plant biology, soil science and landscape management.

The Department has 24 faculty, 14 professional staff and 10 support staff. There are 200 students, including students in our 2-year, 4-year and graduate programs. The majority of our students find immediate employment after graduation in the state’s Green Industry, which is currently the largest sector of agriculture in the state with annual revenues over $940M. Active extramural grants in the Department total $4.5M and are used to support the research, extension and teaching goals of our faculty and staff.
